about jp-dict

jp-dict is a contextual Japanese-English dictionary built for JLPT learners. For every word you look up, it shows the JMdict definition plus a layered learning context — a mnemonic, real-world examples with furigana, and a short cultural note when the word has one.

The mnemonic, examples, and cultural notes are generated live by an AI model (Claude) on each lookup. Treat them as a friendly tutor's notes, not as authoritative reference material. Definitions and part-of-speech come straight from JMdict and are the authoritative part.

When more than one word matches what you typed (e.g. 取るとる / 撮るとる / 捕るとる), the dropdown lets you pick the form you meant. If you press Enter without selecting, we open the most common form.
